Satisfaction. Where is it in the EHR Implementation process?
I was laterally hired by a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) to project manage the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) system they had purchased from GE.
Where to begin? I started with identifying some satisfaction points.
I am energized by people who enjoy their work. Staff satisfaction produces healthy organizations that are able to survive and thrive. It is such an important concept I suggested our EHR implementation team include it in our implementation vision statement:
EHR Vision: Improved patient care and safety, enhanced staff satisfaction and increased efficiency.
EHR implementation impacts nearly all aspects of a care facility and has many stakeholders. There are so many touch points to explore and understand. And while that is fun, the satisfaction for me is overcoming the challenge of getting all the stakeholders to be a part of the process. Everyone is looking at the implementation through a different sets of eyes. How do you get them to unify, transform their processes and accomplish the vision?
For all of my colleagues who are facing the EMR implementation gauntlet, I salute you. I encourage you to identify and know where you find satisfaction. Your satisfaction will energize all who come in contact with you.
